Get to the point. Fast. The ability to break down a complex idea and express it in its simplest form is a skill others will greatly appreciate.

(Loosely applies to conversation, email and public speaking etiquette.)

So much is lost if it takes you too long to get the point of the matter. Your arguments are weakened, your point is lost in the chaos of your conversation, and barriers are needlessly created when your audience is impatient, bored, irritated or distracted because of your waffle.

We tend to be very detailed because we feel people won’t understand our point without first hearing our explanations and back stories. But give them the benefit of the doubt and do the opposite: start with a short overview that includes the main point, then determine from their reaction if there is a need to expand.
