What are the basic essentials for Internet marketing?

What’s the most basic thing? Toilet paper? Well, in digital marketing, it’s a bit different…

I’m currently living in Mexico and they put cilantro into most of their food. I love it!

But I have a friend who hates cilantro.

It’s not so much that she hates it, it’s more like it tastes like soap to her. And she doesn’t want to eat soap, who would? Do you also have that friend?

Just like with cilantro, your customers aren’t ‘everyone’. They’re very specific people with specific desires, and fears. They want certain things, in a certain way.

There are currently 7,93 billions people on Earth. You’ll never work with each and every one of them.

So, who are your customers?

In digital marketing, this becomes another question:

Where do your customers hang out online?

You can find them in 6 different places:

  1. social media
  2. blogs
  3. newsletters
  4. YouTube
  5. podcasts
  6. Google searches

Do you know which of those they read, watch or listen to?

Let’s say you’re designing packages for natural cosmetics brands. Now that’s specific.

1. What social media do they use?

#organicskincare on Instagram has more than 5 millions publications

Instagram has been used in the beauty industry for a long time. #naturalmakeup, #naturalskincare and #organicskincare are some of the most used #. You can use them in your next posts and comment on other posts too.

2. What blogs and newsletters do they read?

I used those # on Google and found that 3blogs were recommended several times:

Follow them on social media, comment on their posts, and subscribe to their newsletters. You’ll read the same things your customers read, keep track of the industry trend and have the same references.

After a few weeks, contact them. Connect with them and, who knows, maybe you’ll work together at some point.

3. What YouTube shows do they watch?

I looked for the same # on YouTube and found those 3 channels:

https://www.youtube.com/c/glamrstv

https://www.youtube.com/user/holistichabits

https://www.youtube.com/user/naturalbeautifullife

Same as with the blogs. Subscribe, watch and comment. You’ll be part of the tribe.

4. What podcasts do they listen to?

This one is easy. There just aren’t many people who regularly publish and for a long time. Actually, there was only one on Spotify:

Be sure to follow her.

5. What do they search for on Google?

Type ‘organic skincare’ on Google and you’ll get many predications like brands or happy life

Look for the same keywords on Google and see what predictions come out. I found:

brands

happy life

product

foundation

Those are the topics people in your industry, and their own customers, are interested in. Write about them on your website. For example, you can document how you design a foundation package.

Let’s wrap this up

To get your digital marketing basics, you need to answer 5 questions, what:

  1. social media do your customers use?
  2. blogs and newsletters do they read?
  3. YouTube shows do they watch?
  4. podcasts do they listen to?
  5. keywords do they search for on Google?
