Can We All Stop Being so Serious Just for a Minute, Please

It won’t make anything worse but it might make everything a little bit better

I’m a serious writer.

I wish I could write humor like Hogan Torah or Benjamin Davis, both of whom make me literally LOL, but I wasn’t born with a witty bone. When I try, my Britishness comes out and I get really sarcastic and my husband-come-editor tells me it doesn’t translate well on virtual paper — it just makes me sound angry.

The reason I bring this up is that I woke up this morning feeling pretty tired of all the seriousness. Not serious subjects, they’re cool, but serious people. People who have forgotten how to laugh and have fun.

Spend enough time on this platform and it seems if you’re not taking your life suuuuuuper seriously, complete with superhuman productivity levels, you’re not living life to the fullest (an ironic statement if ever I’ve written one).

Sometimes it doesn’t feel like there’s any room for fun in modern life and if you dare to inject some, you’ll be hated on for not taking life seriously, for not being enough of a decent human.

There’s a war on for Chrissake, and inflation is through the roof, and the world is burning.
