Wonderful feeling after reading Takashi Murakami message in Instagram:

“I am opening a new store with a lengthy name, Tonari no Otakara Treasure Hunting @tonari_no_otakara , and made its Instagram page.

I made this store to use as a transmission base to share with you the new genre of art, Toy Art. By Toy Art I mean art that is highly compatible with street fashion, if you will, for example the various edition works, signed posters and prints, and soft vinyl figures that Kaikai Kiki artists make, including myself. Such works are constantly being released and are continuously circulating the secondary market. But in the shadows of a booming market, there always lurk… the fakes.

I am hoping that by becoming familiar with the lineup of works we plan to offer at this store, our customers would come to understand the criteria for discerning the difference between authentic works and counterfeits. I don’t intend, however, to issue certificates authenticating certain works, or to have our staff’s claims be used as the proof of authenticity.

You may think, “What! That’s just going to complicate things further!” But my thinking is that such a store could play a role in gradually conveying certain messages regarding authenticity over time. In this age where you can shop anything online, I believe visiting a physical store in person, seeing the actual works, and feeling the atmosphere with your own eyes and whole body would prove to be an experience through which you can receive the kind of information unattainable on the net.

I plan to open this store right next to Tonari no Zingaro @tonari_no_zingaro , another store I opened a year and a half ago on the fourth floor of my beloved Nakano Broadway in Tokyo. In fact, it was slated to open in mid-April, but due to the coronavirus pandemic everything has been turned upside down. So while I have no idea when I can actually open it, I’m going ahead and starting the store’s Instagram page. This images are new Panda prints will coming soon.”

Thank you Takashi san and this is truly a movement for trust.
