How to fully unlock LHR on Nvidia GPUS with Simple Mining

Yes, you heard it right we finally have a solution to unlock the Nvidia GPUS that has LHR lock to prevent miners from using the GPU at its full hashrate.

How to unlock LHR at 100% using Simple Mining

We finally reached the day where it’s possible to unlock LHR on Nvidia GPUS at 100%, up until now it was only possible to reach 80% of the total performance however now it’s possible to unlock the full potential.

What hashrate can we expect?

Please note these values can depend on the GPU and not all will achieve exact same values, some will reach lower hashrate while others will have the possibility to go higher.

How to unlock LHR at 100% using Simple Mining

Let’s break it down in a few steps on how you can start mining at full hashrate.

Use the correct driver version

Make sure you are using the latest STABLE image of Simple Mining OS or at least Nvidia drivers 510.60 or higher version if available. If you already have a rig online with Simple Mining you can simply click the … button from the rig info dashboard, select the commands options from the menu and pick the image you want to install before confirming. If you reflash the image using this option please watch the console while it’s flashing because there are some rare cases where the reflash can fail and the rig can get stuck, which will require you to reflash the USB drive/ hard drive manually.

If you choose to do it manually you can simply download the image and use balena etcher to flash it just like you would do any other version.

Use the correct miner

The first miner to release a 100% unlock was NBMiner v41.0 so it’s important that you use this version or a higher version if available. Nbminer was the first to release this unlock however we w̶e̶ ̶a̶s̶s̶u̶m̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶m̶i̶n̶e̶r̶s̶ ̶s̶u̶c̶h̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶l̶o̶l̶m̶i̶n̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶-̶r̶e̶x̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶s̶o̶o̶n̶ ̶r̶e̶l̶e̶a̶s̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶t̶y̶p̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶u̶n̶l̶o̶c̶k̶i̶n̶g̶,̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶t̶e̶l̶l̶.̶

Enable “Run as Root”

When you configure your miner version and your miner options make sure the option “Run as Root” is enabled as shown in the picture down below.

If you have done all the steps you can start unlocking your LHR Nvidia GPUs to their full hashrate, simply go to rig list and assign the group config with the latest nbminer version to your rigs and reload. In just a few minutes you will see your GPUS mining like it was not possible before.

Important NOTE:

After using this version of Nbminer it seems that in many cases it is necessary to update the overclock settings and in fact reducing the memory overclock could help with more stability and avoid having many restarts.

Adjust your overclock settings if you start having restarts.
