A few days ago Teamredminer released the 8.0 version of the miner, and it came with a few major improvements, one of those improvements is the ability to push the Radeon VII GPU to over 100mhs while only being air-cooled.

It’s simple with Simple Mining OS

In order to get more hashrate on these GPUs it is necessary to edit some files while using some Linux commands and we here at simple mining wanted to make it easy for our users to improve their hashrate without having to run commands. Here is what the teamredminer says it’s needed to activate “beast” mode for Radeon VII :

Radeon VII: huge boost with its new C-mode but requires a special Linux setup. Can now do 100 MH/s on most air cooled VIIs. See tuning guide.

As mentioned above we didn’t want our users to use complicated commands so for that reason we released a new version of our OS that comes with the commands already applied, all our users have to do is use the correct image for these GPUs.

How to install the boosted version

Start by going to the Actions menu on the rig list page, select advanced commands and finally select the image as shown down below.

Run the command and let it finish, this will install a new version of the OS that will be automatically put your Radeon VII GPUs in C-mode while mining with Teamredminer.

And that’s it for the installation, now it’s time to tweak the overclock settings and set up the miner in order to squeeze the maximum amount of hashrate out of this beast of a graphic card.

How to set up the miner

Well, it’s pretty obvious, but we need to use teamredminer, for that go into the group config page in SimpleMining.net and add a new group, make sure you select teamredminer 8.0 version or higher, at the time of writing this article the latest version is 8.0 but most likely it already got a few new updates by the time you are reading this so use the latest available.

After you input your miner options with your wallet and pool address you are basically set on this part also.

You can force the C-mode using “--eth_config=C” and enable the “Run as root” option in the same panel although as mentioned before these should be optional and not required as far as our testing went.

How to overclock the GPU

Now that we got the image and miner options configured, all that we need to tweak are the overclock settings.

It’s important to note that depending on the GPU and memory type and also very important the cooling.

Here are the range of the overclock settings:

Core: 1600–1700

Memory: 900–1200

Undervolt: 925–1000

Advanced tools

Lastly, we need to set the advanced tools according to the type of memory we have on our Radeon GPUs, we can check the memory by hovering our mouse over the GPU name in the Simple Mining rig info panel.

In case you have Samsung memory use the following:

amdmemorytweak --i XXX --ref 7500 --faw 15 --rcdrd 13 --rp 13 --rrds 3 --rc 38 --ras 25

In case you have Hynix memory use the following:

amdmemorytweak --i XXX --ref 7500 --rtp 6 --rrds 3 --faw 12 --ras 19 --rc 30 --rcdrd 11 --rp 11

Replace XXX with the number of the GPU you want to apply these settings.

If you have to separate advanced command for each GPU use for example

amdmemorytweak --i 1,2,3,4 and so on
