It has been more than 70 years since India threw off the yolk of colonial oppression and gained independence from British imperialism. In 70 years, the country has seen many companies come and go. The scope for innovation and critical thinking has always been there, owing to the large but inquisitive population of this country.

In 2018, we are now living in a time where everyone wants to launch a startup. Over the last decade, many startups began their journey, and whether they were big or small, successful or not so successful, they changed the professional landscape of India one way or the other.

Indian startups have given a boost to the country’s economy. Many young entrepreneurs have come forth with ambition to do good as well as turn the “Make in India” movement into a success story. This is a positive change and it’s not only making India economically stronger than ever, but is also contributing to solving the youth unemployment problem of the country. And the best part is, young professionals are getting better learning experience and growth opportunities by working for these startups.

Startups like Paytm, Ola, OYO, and many more are making the life our country’s citizen easy and comfortable. There are also many lesser known startups which are helping India to grow and helping the society to tackle some major issues.

Let’s have a look at some of them and how they are changing India for the better.

This startup is hiring 60-year-old interns.

Truebil is an online marketplace for used cars. This startup claims to provide highest quality cars at the best price. But this is not what makes this company special. What sets this company apart from other budding firms is that it hires interns above the age of 60!

These guys know that there are many senior citizens who wish to work even after retirement, despite their seniority. There are many old folks who want to learn new skills and earn some extra money. And this is where Truebil comes into the picture — providing a high degree of satisfaction to their customers and employees at the same time.

Truebil’s work culture reminds us of the 2015 movie “The Intern” featuring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. The management must have been influenced by the super-hit movie. We can hope this startup replicates the movie’s success with many Robert De Niros working in this company.

This startup which is changing the way people travel.

Mihuru is a startup with the tagline “Travel More with PayLater”. Yes, you heard that right. Now you can travel around the country or around the world by paying a small upfront cost and then pay the rest of the amount in installments. Just like you would do for your home, car or expensive gadgets.

Mihuru is an apt solution for someone who loves to travel but don’t have the budget to travel to their favorite destination. This startup can be very handy for aspiring traveling bloggers, who want to travel and share their experience with the whole world but buckle under the fear of investing a large sum of money even before starting their journey.

Mihuru has blended some cool and exciting offers with technologies like artificial intelligence. So by using their service, you can make your budgeting, researching and booking experience fun and convenient.

This startup can change your way of living.

If you are a young professional or a student staying away from your family and looking for a PG or rented flat to live in, you may face major hurdles before finding a suitable accommodation, especially in a city you might not be familiar with. Because there is always something missing when you are living away from home, it’s very difficult to find all the necessary facilities at one place. And unfortunately, sometimes the attitude of landlords towards bachelors can be an unpleasant one.

However, there is a startup which can solve all of these problems of yours (except ‘Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana’) if you are searching an accommodation in Delhi/NCR. The name is CoHo.

Their motto is to provide “rental accommodations designed for young professionals & students with Comfort, Convenience, and Love”. This firm takes villas and houses on rent and fills it with all the basic and luxurious amenities. You get a fully furnished place to live in, with an awesome ambiance and maybe with some cool people. You also get all amenities like Wifi, swimming pools, laundry, cafeterias, rooms where you can play indoor games like snooker and much more at a very affordable price.

This startup is dedicated to waste management system.

While initiatives like ‘Swacch Bharat’ has been launched with the goal of keeping the environment clean, there are some startups which have been set up in India with the aim to turn that dream into reality. Banyan Nation is one such startup.

Dedicated to helping brands use more recycled plastic, this firm collects consumer and industrial grade plastic and converts it into high quality recycled plastic. This organization is the winner of The Dell Circular Economy People’s Choice Award (2018). Intel India, L’Oreal India, and Tata Motors are some of the companies which are using Banyan Nation’s services.

Banyan Nation is using innovative technologies for their waste management system. They are using bin sensors, landfill management toolkits, GPS truck routers, biometric attendance device and back-end analytic engines to collect the waste data efficiently.

A Startup That’s Focusing on Alternative Energy Sources.

The effects of climate change have started to affect everyone all across the globe, with disruptive weather patterns and various animal species moving closer to extinction. Several studies conducted on the subject have concluded that human action has accelerated the process, and something drastic has to be done to change this self-destructive pattern. This is where Selco India comes in. Selco India is a social enterprise which has dedicated itself to improving the quality of life of the citizens of the rural regions of the country through renewable energy resources. This organization has been a part of major innovations in solar based technologies, and has raised funds for rural areas to avail technologies like microgrids and solar powered lanterns since its inception.

This startup is launching an affordable wind power system.

Avant Garde Innovation™ is a startup from Kerala with a clear goal — 100% clean and affordable energy for all. To realise this goal, the company is planning to launch a small wind turbine for a price of a smartphone that can provide power to offices, homes, and farms, which is very impressive.

It should be noted that Avant Garde Innovations™ is the only Indian clean energy company which was invited to be showcased at the 7th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) held at Silicon Valley, San Francisco.

This startup is simplifying machine maintenance.

Ecolibrium is an Ahmedabad based startup which helps different types of organizations to maintain ecological equilibrium by efficient machinery maintenance through capable implementation of IoT and AI based solutions.

Their product named PowerGenome detects any change in the mechanical behavior of an equipment which reflects in electrical signals. It uses advanced predictive analytics and sensing data to predict machine reliability.

Conclusion:

If we keep on looking, we will find many startups which are contributing to change India’s present and future. The country does not lack ambitious individuals who want to realise their dreams. We feel that there should be solid programs set in place that encourage such individuals to turn those dreams into reality.
