Bruce Lee says “There Are No Limits”

Bruce Lee has always been, and remains, someone I admire very much. He managed to squeeze an awful lot of accomplishment and living into a life so short.

How did he achieve so much?

An almost unbelievable will to succeed and work ethic to match didn’t harm.

Perhaps as much a part of his success was another stand out trait. A refusal to accept the limitations others tried to impose upon him.

He trained Western students in Kung Fu at time he was under considerable pressure (and threatening behaviour) not to.

He refused to hear advice that he may never walk again after a very serious back accident left him bed ridden. Instead, he used his rest time to write and challenge his own ideas, fueling his Jeet Kune Do philosophy.

He refused to listen to ‘advice from those that knew’ that he would never become a star in America. He blazed the trail for so many other non-Western stars to breakthrough as a consequence (in movies but also in sports and other areas).

By setting his own expectations of himself and living to his own standards Bruce was able to break through the ceilings others tried to set him. Using no way as his way.

Bruce’s light burned bright for the relatively short time he was here. He continues to inspire millions with his spirit and his ample work (film, philosophical insights, thoughts on martial arts and training, his approach to life). His legacy is well earned.

See the quotes below for some inspiration from the great man himself.

“If you always put a limit on everything you do, physical or anything else it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”

“A goal is not always meant to be reached. It often serves simply as something to aim at.”

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”

Life can require some unorthodox thinking and methods at times. The edges are where great things can happen. Swimming against the flow of conventional wisdom isn’t always easy but can be rewarding.
