If you want to change your life, you need to audit ruthlessly.

While simplifying our lives can be a slower, gentler process, an audit is radical. It cuts through your bullsh*t with no mercy, and it’s what we need to do when we need a true, long-lasting change for the better.

A life audit allows you to truly examine whether or not you are investing your time, money, and energy in ways that align with what you truly desire. I’ve read about tons of creative ways to perform a life audit, but most of the time, they involve endless steps and I’m discouraged before I even start.

For things to work, they need to be simple and straightforward. So here’s how I’ve built my own life audits, which I perform whenever I need a significant reset in my life.

Step 1: What’s an audit?

An audit is an official inspection of the way an individual or an organization spends its resources. While an audit is assumed to be financial (think of the IRS digging into your tax reports), auditing can be applied to all aspects of your life.
