Why we choose to be different and keep things simple

We thought long and hard about why is it that we’re putting so much effort into Simpli and constantly trying to make it better and more useful. So here is what we stand for and why:

The process is as important as the outcome.

Email is a key concern for most people — a main area of focus on everyone’s productivity agenda. But the point with email is not just to make it go away, inbox zero. The point is to make something out of it. Because what your inbox is filled with are actions and plans and burgeoning ideas. And you need to do something with them. Email is communication around actionable content.

What can be easier should be easier.

Let’s take the calendar — another staple in the productivity toolbox. What your calendar shows are things in your life. Maybe it’s a weekend getaway: what if you had your emails with reservations, the list of sights not to miss and the top restaurants to try out that your local friend emailed you about a few weeks back, all handy, linked to that event in your calendar? It would definitely be easier. No need to switch apps, back and forth, but rather focus on actually getting there, sightseeing or the menu.

People are smart.

There are more and more apps with smart functionalities, sorting things out for you. While progress is great and it’s likely in the right direction, for now, to us, the current solutions are still somewhere between creepy (at worst) and confusing (at best).

So our bet is this: there’s value in simplicity. Providing people with simple tools, making it easier for them to make things happen, by themselves, is better than trying to do things for them. In our view, this is better than overcomplicating things just for the sake of coolness. Feeling in control of your actions and tools is important. We want to provide a tool, not the result. Because then you really own the outcome.

Beauty.

We realize that what draws us to come back to certain apps rather than others is not a perfectly timed push notification. What keeps us coming back is beauty, simplicity and a certain ease and elegance of use of certain apps not others. Between two apps that aim to solve the same problem, we’ll always choose the one that does it the most discretely and beautifully. We still don’t know why we’re drawn to art, but we keep coming back to and feel attracted to beautiful things.

Simpli.

As we may get annoyed by apps predicting so accurately our next move to offer us the next best product or service, perfectly timed with what we’re doing and where we are, we may also get lazier and more spoiled. We don’t want to get hooked even more on technology; instead, we want to keep using our brains and use technology as a tool that makes things easier and frees up time that we can spend as we like.

So here it is: we set out to make something that’s useful, simple, and beautiful, something that when you use, it feels your own. This is what Simpli is about.

Simpli integrates email, calendar, lists and notes functionalities, with cloud storage access and tagging features that works across all the functionalities. Simpli frees up the time wasted switching between various apps that provide such functionalities in isolation and offers a simpler, lighter interface for planning, working and keeping track of things.

We hope that Simpli will serve you well!
