Being Lost

At some point in our lives we all go through a period when nothing makes sense. The world starts looking like a dangerous place. Life seems unfair and meaningless. We are confused about who we are , where we are going, who we are becoming.

Basically, we are lost, on a journey we were placed in. We had been walking all along, because either we were told to or because we saw everybody else doing so. But then, something shakes us up and we question our self about the point of it all. And when we are unable to come up with an answer we realize we’ve been lost all along.

At this point we have 2 choices, either to ignore the questions and resume, not caring where we might end up OR we can stop, look around, look within and try to find the answers.

Seeking answers and meaning itself is a path that we must take.

This path is unique for all of us and on it we find ourselves later or sooner. We find ourselves step by step . We find ourselves a destination and a reason to get there. We can meet aspects of ourselves that we never knew we had.

We may not find all the answers at once but we start doing what we do consciously. We don’t feel as lost anymore.

Being lost in the first place is scary. Many of us never find a way because they lose hope or quit. Some end up in places with dead ends others keep going on autopilot, unless their fuel runs out and they crash.

The key is to first realize that we are indeed lost, and then to look for directions. Self knowledge is an integral factor that serves as a map while we navigate through life.

However Being lost is usually what sets us on the right track. Sometimes, the sooner we are lost the better.

“Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves” Henry David Thoreau.
