I begin my journey to becoming more fun.
A few years ago, a group of women I used to teach with invited me to go on their annual ‘girls’ trip. Seventeen of us rented a house together in San Antonio and drove down for a 4-day adventure. They’d had these adventures before, I’d seen their social media posts showing all their fun.
This was the first time they’d invited me along. Although we had a blast (strolling along the Riverwalk, sampling whiskey at a small batch distillery, taking a ghost tour, eating at a fun restaurant, taking a sunrise swim in the pool) they’ve never asked me to go along since.
I guess I’m not a fun enough person.
I don’t think I know how to have fun anymore. But I used to be and want to be again. So I’ve been searching for what will bring fun back into my life. I’m a reader and love to read. Lots of people have great advice. I’m reading ALL the books.
What is fun?
Catherine Price, in her book The Power of Fun: How to Feel Alive Again, says our definition of fun is unrefined, and allows us to include passive pursuits in our list of “Things we do for fun” such as watching TV and scrolling social media. Those things we do on autopilot don’t…
