Whew! It’s December. This year has been a long one with many trials and hopefully more than just a few joys. It can only get better from here, right?

In November, I participated in my first NaNoWriMo and I learned so much about my writing habits. I made the mistake of dividing my focus between two projects: a cookbook and my fiction novel. For some reason that turned out to be a bad idea for me because writing the cookbook is easier than writing fiction.

In case you don’t know me, here is my bio. I am a teacher, writer, blogger, and creative. Now that November is over and all that came with it is calming down (you know, the election, Thanksgiving…) it is time to move on to the next big thing. Christmas!!!!!

I love Christmas, the decorations, crafting, cooking, singing. Well, maybe not shopping. And this year, family can’t be here due to COVID-19, at least not in person. Thankfully, there is Zoom, Facetime, and even old-school Skype. Keeping in touch is as easy as logging in to a call and sharing the link with loved ones. It’s not quite the same, but better than not seeing them at all.

In this time of COVID, it is a struggle for many to feed their families on a reduced budget. Even if you aren’t struggling, it’s nice to be able to save money at the grocery store without sacrificing the quality of the food you serve. Here is a way to do just that.

Another way to save money is to eat out less. After COVID-19 lockdowns started, I craved my favorite Italian dish, Chicken Piccata, so I created an easy recipe that can be made at home. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does. And if you need ways to use up that leftover turkey, here are four ideas.

Even better, you can save money and make delicious meals more nutritious by creating them yourself using your favorite ingredients, like my super easy Chicken Pot Pie recipe. You can put in the exact things I did, or add your family’s favorites. Get creative with this one.

Finally, if you are looking for that perfect gift to give the aspiring home cook (or want to give one to yourself) here are four great gadgets every home cook could use. I love mine!

Bon Appetit!
