Late Summer at the Lake
It is the time of year when summer draws to a slow drawn-out end. The swallows are leaving and the dragonflies take over, the smell of the soil takes on a tangier note, and the ducklings and other waterfowl youngsters are almost grown. The sun sets a bit earlier each night, and the bright nights are long gone. As you will see above, the fruit trees are slowly shedding their ripe weight, the earliest, the Mirabelle plums, now littering most of the trail in the wooded area around the nearby lake.
The walking trail runs all around the lake and part of the walk along the eastern side turns downwards among the sheep that live on the north-eastern part of the old chalk pit, the biggest on the northern side of the fjord. The cliff sides there are rather steep, so wooden staircases have been installed to ease the descent and still leave lots of space for the sheep to roam.
It's time to go back home, just like this troop of ducks.
