Last week we welcomed our first data analyst intern, Tianyi Zhou! Tianyi will be working on our bundled payment programs and other analytic projects. We’re very excited to have her on board!
Tell us about your background.
I am a second year Master of Science in Business Analytics student at Brandeis University. I will graduate by December 31, 2019. The Brandeis MS in Business Analytics program targets skills needed in data-intensive and high demand industries. I specialize in marketing analytics and healthcare data analytics. I have taken courses such as Applied Econometrics, Healthcare Data Analytics, Analyzing Big Data, and Python Business Analytics, which have prepared me the coding and analytical skills as a data analyst.
Why did you apply to SVH?
I chose to apply at SVH for two reasons. Firstly, what SVH is doing is so cool and cutting edge, and I am excited about my work here. SVH applies blockchain technology to protect the privacy of healthcare data while facilitating the data sharing process. Also, SVH is part of BPCI-A, a CMS innovation program, and focuses on improving both costs and outcomes in the healthcare system. Secondly, I like the company culture and team atmosphere here. The working style is fast, efficient, and engaging. Team members are supportive and approachable, and I can take initiative to do my work. It will be really interesting to work on independent projects.
What are you most excited to bring to the SVH team?
I am most excited to bring my analytic skills to the SVH team. I have done projects with healthcare claims data before, and I am familiar with the healthcare landscape and ICD-10 taxonomy. I analyzed Vermont All-Payer Claims Data and developed pipelines for analyzing different cohorts, creating cross tabulations and finding patient pathways. I am proficient in Python for data cleaning and data manipulating to support my analyses. By applying all my coding and analytical skills, I am ready to conduct insightful analyses for the SVH ongoing projects.
Can you describe your work style?
I am used to working in a project-based environment. It is very important for me to make sense of my results, and I take initiative to do research about the topic before I start any analysis. Also, I value discussion and team cooperation very much. I think discussion helps inspire new ideas and check for potential blind spots.
Any fun facts / interesting info about you?
I love outdoor events and traveling. I visited Iceland and Israel this year. In Iceland, I went to the scenery sites where Game of Thrones was filmed and took an iceberg walking tour. In Israel, I visited startup companies and enjoyed the sunshine and beach in Tel Aviv. I also walked in the Old City in Jerusalem and went to the lowest place on earth - the Dead Sea.
