Happy International Women’s Day
We recognise all the women doing amazing things for diversity, inclusion and belonging, both within Simply Wall St and the broader Australian startup community. In celebration of today, we wanted to share a couple of the initiatives we have been focusing on to support this:
Diversity and Inclusion in Hiring
We know it is important to have diversity of thought in the team to drive innovation and to truly understand our customers. Our team come from a diverse cultural backgrounds, however gender diversity was a problem for us, so we focussed on this in the last 6 months and increased the percentage of people who identify as female or non-binary from 10–30%. We are super proud of this and know it’s only the beginning.
Empowering Women Investors
At the end of last year we ran a ‘Stock Investing for Women’ event for beginner investors. Historically women have invested less in the stock market than men. Without education, it can seem inaccessible and scary, but a 2020 Investor Study by the ASX found that over the past two years, there has been an influx of younger investors into the market, with 49% of those intending to start investing being women! We were blown away by the attendance & engagement of all the women who attended.
Increasing Compassionate Leave
We have increased our compassionate/ bereavement leave from 2 to 10 days for all employees. This is to support anyone who experiences a loss, however this is so important for women who experience early miscarriage.
Inclusion in Onboarding
Gender inclusive language and allow everyone to indicate their pronouns.
Inclusion in ways of working
- Providing a space for inclusive meetings where everyone’s voice can be heard by encouraging pre-reading and comments before a meeting.
- Ensuring teams communicate around when they are not available & how they like to work.
Extra Support
- Flexibility. Work when & where you are most productive
- 4.5 day work week
- 4 x extra personal days per year
