TD Ameritrade, an online brokerage company from the United States, launched a chatbot to help its Singaporean users. According to the firm, this chatbot comes with features such as trading, research, investor education, and updates about the American financial market. To ensure that the chatbot is useful, the developers used artificial intelligence (AI). In case the chatbot fails to provide the necessary information, they included the ability to contact the support team. Let’s test out the features of this chatbot to find out how it will perform.

Features

According to the TD Ameritrade’s head of emerging technologies and strategic partnerships, Sunayna Tuteja, the Singaporean investors are engaged and active. Also, most of them are familiar with Facebook Messenger, which explains why the company decided to choose Facebook Messenger as the platform for its chatbot. Also, as this messaging app has over one billion monthly users, the brokerage company can reach out to a larger audience.

You need to give the chatbot permission to access your Facebook information before you can start conversing with it. After selecting “Get Started,” the chatbot will give you a brief description of its features. Once the introduction is complete, the chatbot will give you a snapshot of the US financial market, to give you an idea of its performance. In the snapshot, the chatbot will give you details about three companies, along with how well they are faring in the stock market.

The chatbot has the following options in its main menu:

  • My accounts
  • My symbols list
  • Quote
  • New account
  • Market update
  • Education
  • FAQ
  • Help

If you select “My accounts,” the chatbot will ask you to log in to your trading account in TD Ameritrade’s website. If you don’t have an account with the company, the chatbot will redirect you to the official website, where you can create one. You can also ask the chatbot for help, in case you can’t access your account. It will give you a small set of instructions on how you can log in to your account. If you still find it difficult, you can dial the contact number for help or talk to an agent.

When you select “My symbols list,” the chatbot will ask you to type the name or symbol of the stock so that it can get the quotes. For example, if you type ETF, S&P, NASDAQ or DJI, it will give you the current value of the stock. After displaying the necessary information, you can add these stocks to your symbol list. “Trade,” and “View events,” are the two options available, below the card. If you select “View events,” the chatbot will tell you that you can use this mode only for equities. If you want to trade in a particular stock, you need to have an account with the company.

After selecting “Quote,” the chatbot will ask you to enter the name of the company. In this case, we decided to type “Google,” to see how the chatbot will perform. We were quite surprised, as the chatbot gave us stock information for Alphabet Inc., which is Google’s parent company. In the snapshot, you get to see the current value of the stock, market cap, volume, and whether there was an increase or decrease in value.

Upon clicking on “Market updates,” the chatbot goes in-depth on the US financial market. It will give you the stock value of three companies. You can also ask it to give you a summary of the company. In the summary, the chatbot talks about how a particular stock performed during the day. It also informs you whether the value of the stock has been increasing or decreasing for the past five days.

Under “Education,” the chatbot will ask you to pick from the following topics:

  • Stocks
  • Investing strategies
  • Portfolio management
  • Personal finance

Let’s say you are curious to know more about “Investment strategies,” as it allows you to make more money in the long run. The chatbot displays small educational videos, where you get to learn more about this topic. If you want to watch the video, the chatbot redirects you to a different site.

In “FAQ,” the chatbot will show some of the most popular questions investors ask the company. Last price, chart settings, add funds, statements, DRIP, thinkorswim, and margin call are some of the topics under “FAQ.”

If you select “Help,” it will give you a small description of its features. At the same time, the chatbot will give you a list of commands you can type to communicate with it. You also have the option of getting the phone number from it so that you can talk to the company’s customer service representative.

Verdict

TD Ameritrade SG is a wonderful chatbot available on Facebook Messenger, which provides great service to Singaporean investors. You can sync your account with the chatbot, check for market updates, learn about stock market investing, and resolve problems.
