My name is Jen. I’m a stand up comedian & writer from London. I also happen to be one of them transgenders your dad keeps complaining about. Over the past coupe of years I’ve had my fair share of “romantic” ups and downs. But as we move into the year 2022, and I approach 32 years old, I feel myself now more than ever pining for something a little bit more serious.
Growing up, the media taught me that love was a concept too complicated for trans people. TV shows & films heavily implied that the most I could ever hope for romantically, was perhaps cam girl work, escorting or porn (all of which I am currently considering).
Ever since I came out over 10 years ago though, I’ve always made it my ambition to prove people wrong. Many told me transitioning would be a mistake, and would lead to an unhappy & difficult life. They said I’d never find a job or find love…
…well, I’ve proven that all those people had no idea what they were talking about. Except for the love bit. That bit I’ve struggled with.
But God-knows I’ve been putting the effort in. So, I thought why not start telling the stories of my misadventures (with names changed for legal reasons, obviously) and perhaps even document how I’m getting on now. Hopefully you’ll be able to find something entertaining in it, and i dunno — it gives me something to do.
