When it comes to social media terms, we hear a lot of them daily. Most of these words have become too familiar as we hear it most often. But do we know the real meaning of every word?

I would like to explain a few of them so that next time when you hear you’ll know what it means. And those who know can totally ignore me.

Impressions — It gives the number of times your post is displayed even if it is clicked or not. If a person happens to see your post twice, that’ll be two impressions. This measure will help you understand what type of post content could be viewed by more people and how many times.

Reach — The spread of your content or unique people who received an impression of your post. Even if a person sees your post multiple times, the reach remain two. It gives you the exact number of people who viewed your post.

Conversion Rate — Percentage of people who completed an intended action. It is the success in getting visitors to perform your desired action.

Engagement — This term describes the amount of interaction (likes, shares, comments, etc.) your post receives.

Live streaming — Delivering content in the real time.

PPC — this means Pay per click. Advertiser display ads on various websites or search engines & pay when a visitor clicks through.

Retargeting — A social media advertising and marketing technique that allows marketers to display ads to people who have visited a website or are part of a contacts database

RSS Feed — This is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blogs and videos in a standardized format.

RSS Reader — Allows users to aggregate articles from multiple websites into one place using RSS feeds.

Connection — This term is the LinkedIn equivalent of a ‘Friend’ on Facebook. People you meet on LinkedIn are mostly professional contacts rather than friends or family.

DM — It is the abbreviation for Direct Message. It is your private conversation on Twitter or Instagram. On Twitter, both profiles must be following each other to send a DM.

How many of these did you know before? Knowing what such terms exactly means could help you measure your social media more effectively. If there are any other commonly used words I missed please let me know or you can add to it as a comment.
