Shakshuka, a fun and complicated sounding word for a dish; it is one of the easiest things I learnt to make from professional chefs popular on social media.

This is the perfect Sunday brunch recipe for those who enjoy good food and don’t want to give up their solitude at the same time!

What you will need

Eggs- 3 or 4- small sized

Slices of bread

For the sauce-

Tomato -one, coarsely chopped

Tomato puree- about four tablespoons

Capsicum and peppers- mixture of what you prefer or what is available- about half a cup when chopped

Onion- one small- chopped

Garlic- 3-4 cloves- sliced

Cumin powder, ground pepper, paprika or red chilli powder or flakes

Dried mix herbs- thyme, oregano- based on availability and/or preference

Basil and coriander leaves to garnish, if available

Salt to taste

Sugar- a pinch- to balance the flavours

Water- about half a cup- to balance the consistency

Preparation

Make a tomato sauce using this recipe in the post from January 6, 2021.

Images for quick recap-

Once the sauce begins to simmer, poach the eggs in the sauce.

Cover to cook for three to four minutes.

Turn off the heat once the yolks of the eggs are cooked to the desired level.

Sprinkle some more dried herbs, pepper and serve with toasted bread.
