We sat down with Enersponse, a customer of Singularity, to better understand how they utilize our services to empower their grid carbon emissions reporting.

High-level, what is Enersponse, and more specifically what is the Clean Response program?

Enersponse provides a convenient approach to Demand Response and other energy programs by connecting the end users with market signals. Clean ResponseTM, Enersponse’s first-to-market program, automates the reduction of energy consumption when the grid is “dirty” and the majority of power is being generated from non-renewable forms of energy like gas or coal. To help curb reliance on fossil fuels, Clean Response monitors the real-time carbon make-up of the grid. When CO2 percentages are high, Enersponse matches clients’ flexible loads with intelligent automation to avoid carbon-intensive energy use based on their pre-determined and customized specifications.

How did Enersponse account for grid carbon emissions before the partnership with Singularity?

Enersponse was integrated with different utilities and ISO’s across the country for Clean Response and energy savings programs. The challenge was that each utility required a different API connection to be created and maintained, being able to connect with Singularity allowed for a single API to read data from around the country.

How has working with Singularity improved outcomes and accuracy for Enersponse’s customers in the Clean Response program?

Clean Response users continue to avoid heavy energy consumption when the electricity grid’s carbon intensity is high. However, by partnering with Singularity, Enersponse customers have even more visibility and granularity with its high-quality, time and location-based grid emissions data, enabling customers to even more precisely target events and meet their ESG goals.

How much CO2 avoidance have you realized thanks to this new partnership, and how many pounds (tons) of CO2 do you forecast the program will save customers over the next five years?

In 2022 Enersponse helped customers avoid over 3.5 million pounds of CO2. The partnership with Singularity launched in March, 2023; once there are more measurable metrics, concrete numbers will be provided.
