What is the SDAO LayerZero Bridge?

This is SingularityDAO’s customized integration of the LayerZero protocol, an open-source solution designed to enable seamless cross-chain communications. Unlike traditional bridges that link two specific chains, LayerZero operates as a foundational layer (Layer 0) that connects many chains — irrespective of their smart contract technology. This base layer hosts other networks and decentralized applications (dApps).

It provides a new communication primitive that allows tokens and information to be moved between different blockchains without requiring a centralized or decentralized third-party intermediary:

How Does it Work?

  1. Components: LayerZero comprises “Endpoints,” which are on-chain smart contracts that facilitate cross-chain communication. These Endpoints consist of four core modules: Communicator, Validator, Network, and Library. The last allows for the easy addition of new chains to the system.
  2. Third-Party Entities: The Oracle and Relayer are two independent services. The Oracle provides block headers, and the Relayer provides transaction proofs. These two entities ensure the transaction’s validity on both sides of the chain.
  3. Valid Delivery: means that a message sent from one chain will only be delivered to another if the original transaction is committed and valid. This ensures that transactions are secure and trustless.
  4. Transaction Flow: The process involves multiple steps, including the user application initiating a LayerZero packet, validating the transaction, and eventually delivering the packet to the recipient chain. All of this ensures the message is only sent if it’s backed by a committed and valid transaction on the originating chain.

In light of recent events surrounding Multichain — a bridge that was hacked for $1.5B — the necessity for a genuinely decentralized solution has never been more evident.
