Hello dear Singularitarians!

As we move into 2023, we’d like to share some initiatives and changes that are taking place within the SingularityNET Foundation and take a moment for some high level reflection on the foundation’s progress and shape.

Overall these are complex and exciting times to be working on beneficial decentralized AGI. Both the overall global economy and the crypto world in particular are going through complicated and in some ways troubling times. At the same time, SingularityNET’s AGI R&D pipeline has been going through exciting developments. Our novel AGI architecture, OpenCog Hyperon, is soon to launch its alpha version including three key components: The scalable, high-performance Metagraph (‘Distributed AtomSpace’) from OpenCog-Hyperon, the new “cognitive” AI language ‘MeTTa,’ and the intelligent AI-service orchestrator ‘AI-DSL.’ These are all designed to work effectively with the Cardano port of the SingularityNET platform and then the Hypercycle AI-optimized Cardano side-chain. As we focus on our primary goal of decentralized AGI, we will be directing technology resources to develop “killer apps’’ for the rapidly expanding AI services marketplace — AI services to generate massive utilization that are fundamentally compatible with AI-DSL and decentralized use-cases.

Alongside this core tech progress, we are also proud of all the other advances the SingularityNET Foundation’s teams have made so far in 2022. New research findings on the genomics of longevity, the beta-launch of the Rejuve longevity app … multiple breakthroughs in advanced dialogue systems with our humanoid robot Grace and our SophiaVerse collaboration with Hanson Robotics … the successful rollout of the AGIX converter bridge, and the preparation of Cardano staking for AGIX token, soon to be launched … not to mention the world’s first humanoid robot-fronted band with Desdemona and the Jam Galaxy Band, and much more!

During 2023 the SingularityNET Foundation will focus more tightly on developing the core technologies most critical to achieving its mission of beneficial decentralized AGI — while making sure that the wonderful diversity of applications the Foundation has been incubating during 2022 successfully grow into their next phases of life within the SingularityNET ecosystem. Toward this end, one of our priorities in the first half of 2023 will be to see more of the application projects that the Foundation has been incubating “spin off”, and become their own autonomous entities acting within the ecosystem (and growing utilization of the platform and AGIX token).

In 2021 we spun off SingularityDAO and NuNet with their own highly successful token sales and these projects are now actively growing their own software, communities, and user bases in coordination with the Foundation and the SingularityNET community. HyperCycle, a collaboration of SingularityNET with the TODA ecosystem to build radically faster, cheaper, and more flexible blockchain infrastructure, is also up and running independently now. We have recently brought in industry veteran heavyweight Lewis Farrell to provide strategic marketing advice and oversight in the process of spinning off additional incubated projects such as TrueAGI, Rejuve, Jam Galaxy, Cogito and Mindplex. In preparation for these launches, we have been restructuring several of these incubated projects to decrease their operating costs and to optimize them for embarking on the next phase of their life as autonomous entities.

We’ve also been thinking hard about how to effectively move toward a more fully decentralized mode of operation in the SingularityNET ecosystem. We are excited to open a more intensive conversation with the community on this in early 2023, including a presentation by Dr. Goertzel on his vision for a SingularityNET Community DAO.

Alongside these initiatives we have recently implemented some long-discussed restructuring of the SingularityNET Foundation operations, including:

  • Shifting development efforts from higher cost locations and reducing dependency on external consultants
  • Simplifying aspects of our business and marketing operations
  • Streamlining some of our incubated application projects as we prepare them for spinoff
  • Rebalancing of global salary scales across our multiple developer locations

Through these efforts, we’ve reduced the overall cost of Foundation operations by approximately ⅓ going into 2023 — without in any way compromising our ability to deliver our core technologies, and to help our incubated projects move efficiently toward independent operation.

With these strategic restructurings, and building on all we’ve accomplished during 2022, we believe SingularityNET is extremely well positioned for success on multiple fronts coming into 2023. While these are strange and complex economic times we’re all confronting, they are also times of incredible opportunity as our systematic progress toward beneficial decentralized AGI accelerates.

Roadmap update

Notes on the milestones:

Regarding OpenCog Hyperon, our core AGI tech, we are currently finalizing the intermediate stages of R&D in several related directions. First of all, in Q4, the ‘MeTTa’ cognitive language of OpenCog Hyperon is transitioning from its prototype stage to the first pre-alpha release through standardization of its core elements. We have ported an important dialogue system component (“curious agent”) to MeTTa as a PoC. We have also fleshed out our Minecraft AI mod and ported our Minecraft agents to it, so they can now operate in Minecraft 1.18. We will continue to build on this foundation in 2023, and are looking forward to having our first end-to-end alpha-version of Hyperon and testing it against several use cases!

We have formally closed phase 2 of AI-DSL, as funded by Cardano Catalyst during Fund 7.

We are making progress on the Decentralized AI platform, with our first trainable test-service and transitioning from the Ropsten to the Goerli test Network. Going forward there will be more focus on the onboarding experience, through improved video demos, small but important navigation changes, and offering ‘training as a service’.
Callout to cloud-savvy software engineers: Let us know if you want to be trained to become a preferred supplier of onboarding services! (mail to deepfunding@singularitynet.io, or reach out on our social channels)

On the Cardano front, we are happy that the Loyalty rewards of the first year of minted AGIX on Cardano started in November. Staking on Cardano is now planned for Q1 of 2023, as internal testing is in full progress. We expect our voting portal to support both AGIX on Cardano and AGIX on Ethereum in the next voting round early next year. We are preparing a full port of the platform and collaborating with Cardano on the integration of the Hydra protocol.

Rejuve.AI is working on a user-friendly frontend interface for the BayesExpert on the marketplace, that researchers across domains will be able to utilize. Next key milestones will be the live launch of the Longevity app on Google Playstore and Apple Appstore in Q1 2023.

And now there is Rejuve.Bio! We are very proud of this new ecosystem entity which has acquired a unique license to research the DNA and RNA of a population of long-lived Methuselah flies. Rejuve Biotech will utilize the Rejuve AI tools and OpenCog Hyperon to combine the longevity-fly data with network data from Rejuve.AI to develop safe and effective treatments and therapies to prevent and treat aging-related diseases. There are already promising research directions from initial analysis of fly data, which we will be sharing with the community shortly.

Mindplex Magazine has completed its back-end systems and UX/UI design and is ready to go live. The magazine is targeting Q1 of 2023 due to evolving insights on content strategy. We expect the first Mindplex AI services (recommendations and reputation system) to be hitting the SingularityNET marketplace in early 2023.

The Jam Galaxy artists and fan portal is nearing completion and should be ready for release in Q1 2023. Desdemona Robot is growing in fame and sang in a tremendously well received performance at the wonderful NFCastle conference in Prague Castle as well as being interviewed by CNN!

Cogito Protocol, in the meantime, is building the MVP of their ‘Tracercoin’ protocol with a first prototype targeted for end Q1 2023.

Conferences — during Q4 SingularityNET maintained great visibility at a number of high profile conferences including the wonderful Rare Bloom in Denver and the amazing Cardano summit in Lausanne where we deepened our Cardano community connections and sparked some new partnerships… followed by London Token2049 and Enter The Metaverse in London.

SingularityNET HR — Quarterly Report

In line with the restructuring changes outlined above, the overall organizational headcount has reduced by 14, largely reflecting the strategic transition of a number of roles previously performed by a brilliant team at an external agency to our in-house technology teams, having built capability in-house through 2022 to take this on, plus operating efficiencies described above as well as some short term assignments reaching an end. From 1st January the SingularityNET headcount is 130, reduced from 144.

Current open positions:

SingularityNET

  • PR and Social Media Management
  • Tokenomics Consultant (short-term contract)

If you are interested in any of our open positions, please send your resume to recruitment@singularitynet.io. We love to hire from the SingularityNET community, who already understand the critical importance of the ecosystem mission. We are working continuously on engagement and outreach events to build a diverse and inclusive global organization that can represent the needs of all communities.

Partnerships update:

2022 has been a banner year at SingularityNET for partnerships; we have partnered with a diverse range of organizations showing off our AI capabilities in various sectors ranging from Music, Metaverse, Finance, Biotech, NFTs, and much more! Seeing each one progress from initial discussions through to joint planning and implementation is exciting. Without exaggeration, we’re working on some of the most exciting projects on the planet right now.

There is a development pipeline from initial discussion through to signed contract and ultimately demonstrating the fruits of the partnerships working together, and sometimes these seem to progress slowly as other forces come to bear on both sides, but rest assured all are moving forward to achieve positive impact for all parties. In 2023 more progress will be visible as the coordinated activities come to fruition.

Decentralization Updates

Deep Funding

Round 2 of Deep Funding is currently open!

There is $ 500,000 in AGIX available, distributed over 5 pools:

There are 2 main pools:

  • New projects (This time without a maximum amount per proposal)
  • Existing services

And 3 secondary / smaller pools

  • Projects in the ideation phase
  • Marketing initiatives
  • Tooling for DF or Platform

Additionally, there are 100,000 AGIX available to be distributed among our contributors, based on reputation points received during this round.

Read all about Round 2 in our blog and on the rules and conditions page of our Deep Funding website or go directly to the portal to view the proposals or submit one yourself!

Also in Q4, the first Community Governance (Experiment) Round has been successfully completed. We asked the community for ideas on how to improve Deep Funding in Round 2. This led to an official vote, where, for the first time, we applied ‘Quadratic Voting’ and reputation ratings as a weighting mechanism.

The reputation rating was based on constructive interaction on our Portal, such as idea submissions and ratings, feedback, and appreciation of this feedback. Besides influencing the voting, we also used this rating to award the contributors with 100,000 AGIX to be distributed proportionally to the gained reputation points. On this first occasion, this has led to rewards between 1,000 and 10,500 AGIX per contributor!

We will be applying a similar mechanism with the same reward pool of 100,000 AGIX in Round 2 of Deep Funding to express our appreciation for the community’s time and participation and hope this will just give a little bit of extra motivation for all our community to become engaged in the Deep Funding program!

Vote on year 2 of the Loyalty rewards

In case you missed the big news, the Loyalty rewards portal, per the Phase Two proposal, is now open. Additionally, there will be a community governance event organized in Q1 2023 to discuss and decide how the rewards for year 2 and onwards will be allocated. For more details on eligibility, reward calculation, and distribution periods, please read the full program overview in the SingularityNET Phase Two: Loyalty Rewards blog.

SingularityNET Community DAO

Following up on the decentralization report from our Supervisory Council, the Foundation will organize a Decentralized Governance Summit in Q1 2023 to explore the topic and path towards progressive decentralization with the community. This event and follow-up Townhall discussions will be the first steps toward creating a separate community-governed entity, that will enable us to grow our decentralization efforts step by step, while improving processes, tooling, and involving community members in shaping the SingularityNET Community DAO. We are very much looking forward to evolving not only technically but also organizationally, and increasing our collaborations with our beloved community in 2023 and beyond.

And that’s a wrap, not just of Q4 but of 2022 in its entirety. Thank you all for your ongoing support. We can’t wait for 2023 and wish you all the best in the new year!
