Through the first half of 2020 and now onward into H2, the SingularityNET platform and associated AI and applications have been progressing steadily — bringing us closer and closer to an abundant future catalyzed by democratic and decentralized AGI.

In this roadmap update, we detail what we’ve achieved in the past half-year, some short-term tweaks we’ve made to our plans based on unexpected aspects of the world situation (we assume the reader may have noted the COVID-19 pandemic by this point), and how we intend to proceed moving forward.

Previous Advances

In the previous beta release, we launched a major overhaul of our Marketplace DApp adding many new features designed to enhance ease of use and the overall user experience.

We implemented a fiat payment gateway with PayPal, opening the marketplace to a global audience and smoothing the road ahead for increased adoption. We launched a crowdsource platform for AI requests in the RFAI Portal further laying the foundations of the overarching SingularityNET Ecosystem. We released a Software Development Kit (SDK) and resource portal to help developers bridge the work they are already have completed and wrap their code in our API.

All of these elements work together and are at some level reliant on each other to create coherent steps toward the goal of democratising access to AI globally.

Recent Advances

SingularityNET has been relatively less impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic than many businesses due to its global, distributed and software-focused aspect — but nonetheless the situation has affected our work in various ways. Between the obvious economic impacts and a fair bit of diversion of our team’s attention to applying AI and blockchain to help with COVID-19 directly, the result of the pandemic has been to delay a few things that were on our H1 Roadmap into H2 instead.

We are proud of our ongoing work against COVID-19, including the Covidathon, a hackathon bringing together global AI and blockchain projects and developers to create intelligent decentralized tools to combat COVID-19 and to reduce risks from future infectious outbreaks. The Covidathon was a resounding success with nearly 1200 projects submitting, many of which will likely find their way onto our platform at some point. The experience we gained in running Covidathon will serve us well when we launch a more general-scope SingularityNET hackathon, most likely later this year — something we had planned to do in H1 2020 but which got pre-empted by Covidathon.

We have also been working hard on intelligent agent-based modelling of COVID-19 spread, and applications of our machine learning and reasoning tech to help with precision medicine for COVID-19 patients.

However, alongside all this, we have also been aggressively moving our general-purpose decentralized AI platform forward. Most critically, earlier this year we launched the Publisher Portal, which enables AI developers to more easily onboard their services to the SingularityNET Marketplace.

Another major step toward broader platform adoption was taken by the launch of our Liquidity Staking Portal, which supports our platform tokenomics, widening the fiat gateway to the marketplace by sustaining a pool of AGI tokens specifically used by the gateway. Liquidity staking empowers our community, by vesting their AGI tokens within 30-day staking windows.

Platform Roadmap Updates for H2 2020

Here we outline our platform development roadmap for the second half of 2020 — a series of critical steps oriented largely toward making the platform easier to use for a variety of AI algorithms, model, product and service developers, and thus paving the way for a dramatic increase of traction in 2020/1 and onwards. All the work described here will be open-sourced, available for view on SingularityNET’s GitHub Repo.

Flexible Pricing Models (Subscriptions)

Support for capturing Licenses on the blockchain and pricing based on the License agreements. Currently, AI consumers pay per call for a service. We want to extend this and provide additional options such as subscriptions where customers pay on a fixed cadence for the use of a service.

Crypto to Fiat Gateway

Leverage the liquidity of the staking pool to build the second half of the fiat gateway and allow service providers to liquidate their marketplace earnings from AGI tokens into fiat.

Support for Concurrent Calls

Initiate concurrency support into the Daemon and other clients like SDK / SNET-CLI. An important feature that strengthens the ability of users of the platform to interact with AI agents multiple times simultaneously, greatly enhancing the overall usability and capabilities of the platform.

SNEPs (SingularityNET Enhancement Proposals)

The portal for SingularityNET Enhancement Proposals will be focused on platform improvements and extensions. Similar to the RFAI portal but specifically focused on enhancing the community’s ability to further improve our platform. The first proposals that are to be worked on are:

  • Embedded Daemon — Enabling platform elements to be installed directly within external devices massively increasing market potential and creating a compelling case for platform adoption.
  • Integration of the reputation system — Installation of the reputation system including a reputation dashboard allowing users to browse reputations of different services, authors and users.

Swift SDK

The Release of our Swift SDK to enable developers to build native iOS apps for Apple devices that make calls to the platform, opening a huge market opportunity for service providers to generate calls by directly accessing the 1.4 billion IOS users around the world.

Enhanced Daemon

Expanding the Daemon’s functionality by adding auto-recovery, Operator UIs and Asynchronous Requests. Support for different storage systems beyond just etcd, further strengthening the SingularityNET platform and creating a more compelling environment for developers to take advantage of.

The Cycle of Continuous Innovation

One of the cornerstones of technological advance is the accelerating nature of the progression. This constant increase in momentum leads to an exponential growth in emerging opportunities, and never more so than now has it been critical for organisations to be free to take advantage of the constantly changing landscape.

Fulfilling what we set out to in our whitepaper is a road of continuous improvement and innovation and for these reasons, we have chosen to change how we communicate our progress toward a more fluid, dynamic, and accurate way of reporting, and thus from this point onwards, we will no longer be using a number convention for our future beta updates.

We will continue to report on our progress regularly and you can continue to expect nothing but our very best in our work toward achieving our goal and shared vision of creating a positive technological singularity.
