Here are 4 ways of how A.I. and Robotics will change our lives and workplaces.
Join us at the third SingularityU Germany Summit conference in June 2018 and learn more about AI & Robotics.
1. The coexistence of robots and humans
Sophia is Hanson Robotics’ latest and most advanced robot to date and already has become a cultural icon. Sophia already has appeared onstage as a panel member and presenter in high-level conferences, covering how robotics and artificial intelligence will become part of people’s lives. She was named the world’s first United Nation Innovation Champion by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and will have an official role in working with UNDP to promote sustainable development and safeguard human rights and equality. Robots like Sophia already exist today, so how far away are we from robots living amongst us as our friends, colleagues and partners?
2. Driverless Cars
Google’s self-driving car project, now Waymo, started in 2009, with the goal to bring driverless cars into the market. They drive more than 25,000 autonomous miles each week, largely on complex city streets, gathering data and improving their technology to make sure it is safe. We look into a future, where humans will be driven around by intelligent machines, learning from accidents and freeing people from being trapped behind the wheel for hours. Nevertheless there are still questions to be answered:
What are the ethical implications of a driverless car in case of an accident? Will humans walk and move less if they don’t have to drive themselves around anymore?
3. Robots taking over jobs in the service industry
Hilton Worldwide and IBM today in 2016 announced a collaboration to pilot “Connie”–the first Watson-enabled robot concierge in the hospitality industry. Connie draws on domain knowledge from Watson to inform guests on local tourist attractions, dining recommendations and hotel features and amenities. Robots like this will be one of the first ones taking over easy tasks within the service industry. We can already see today that Chatbots are on the rise to offer the customer a better customer experience all day long so how far will we be from robots being at our service 24/7?
4. Artificial Assistants
Be it Alexa. Google Home or Siri — amongst the most known AI assistants are great examples of how humans already interact with the voice-activated computers on a daily basis. They use machine-learning technology to get smarter and better able to predict and understand our natural-language questions and requests.
