Caty Forgot About Mother’s Day

Or, why having co-founders is so great.

Proving yet again that simply owning a gremlin makes it hard to remember basic stuff, Caty, a mother, completely forgot Mother’s Day. Luckily, Verity, also a mother, remembered! Having co-founders is so handy. So let’s celebrate us! By talking about things we love! Cheers!

What Mom Really Wants

A drink.

Did you know that Jancis Robinson, one of the most famous wine critics and journalists in the world and the Patron Saint of Sipply, was pregnant when she passed her Master of Wine exams? The only thing we passed was a pint of Cherry Garcia (bowl optional).

Mom feeling like a little cuppity cup of red wine to treat herself? How about a glass of Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. Lush, full red fruit explodes from the glass and sly little hints of earth and floral bring up the rear. It’s a beautiful bottle with birds and flowers and crap (perfect nod to the Met Gala’s Sleeping Beauties theme) and drinks like a hug from Clair Huxtable.

Our personal vibe this week is a little splosh of Weingut Brundlmayer Gruner Veltliner this week. Don’t worry, you don’t need to pronounce it to drink it! Gruner is Austria’s most important white varietal, although we’d be remiss not to also call out some of the impossible-to-pronounce-but-super-gulpable red wines from the homeland of the von Trapps! In our humble opinion, Gruner does it all: it’s basically Sauvignon Blanc meets Pinot Gris. It can be young, lively and refreshing, or rich and complex with age if made with care. Bottoms up!

For gals of the Shania Twain persuasion (blame Canada): Shout out to our friends at Duchess Cocktails whose founder is a new mom! Giving a little hat tip on Mother’s Day to this crew for keeping our hometown hydrated with delicious and chic bottled cocktails. We find that the French 75 over ice with a squeeze of fresh lemon is a real treat. If you’re in Vannie, pick up a few for your mom — after all, you may be the reason she drinks.

Tough Times for Some

We won’t make a joke here. We know this season can be tough for people who no longer have a mom, never had a mom, are far away from their mom, want to be a mom and aren’t able to be… The list goes on. Being a gal is pretty hard sometimes. We’re cheersing you this weekend too. You, above all, deserve a drink. Hugs.

What’s Up with Sipply

We’re prepping to expand cities! Anyone, anywhere can use us for inspo, but we want inventory to be local in more places. Projects around engine testing and inventory automation (ooh, talk dirty to me) will make this reality. More to come.

Cheers!
