Postcards to Voters: Sisters in Action
At our August 2018 meeting, our DC-area sisters (and brothers!) gathered together to support the effort of Postcards to Voters, a nationwide get-out-the-vote effort that sends handwritten notes to targeted voters across the U.S. As of today’s writing, they count 20,000+ volunteers in every state (including Alaska and Hawaii), ~3 million postcards, and support for progressive candidates in 100+ key, close elections.
Given our group’s stance of not supporting one particular candidate over another, but rather examining our faith to align it with our individual political choices, our Sisterhood writers could choose whether to voice personal support for the identified Democratic candidate or write their postcards from a general GOTV standpoint to remind New York State voters about their upcoming primary.
Fueled by sugary treats, colored markers, and the sweet jams of our Sisterhood playlist on Spotify, our merry band of volunteers cranked out a few hundred postcards in support of our democratic process — a terrific civic action that helped us feel we’d made at least a postcard-sized dent in the wall of issues currently facing our nation.
Check out these close-ups of our lovingly written missives, and consider hosting your own Postcards to Voters event soon ahead of the U.S. midterm elections!
