In the days leading up to Easter, we at the Sisterhood asked our fellow sisters, “What’s on your heart this Holy Week? What prayer do you find yourself saying over and over in your most contemplative moments?”

Jill Nusbaum (who has previously shared her writing with the Chronicles) shared this simple but powerful prayer for peace from the Church of England. Here’s the prayer in its entirety, with Jill’s equally poignant closing thought.

The Episcopal diocese of Virginia held a prayer vigil last weekend and one of the prayers they included is below.

God, our refuge and strength,
bring near the day when wars shall cease
and poverty and pain shall end,
that earth may know the peace of heaven
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Its simplicity speaks to me, especially as our country takes a more belligerent stance toward the rest of the world.

Do you have a prayer —traditional, original, or otherwise — that you want to share this Easter season? We encourage you to share it at spcsisterhoodchronicles[at]gmail[dot]com!
