Here we go again, it’s another best web hosting list! But this isn’t another “top 15”, or “top 10”, or even “top 5” list… I just want to focus on two of the most noteworthy hosts that top my own shortlist.

Several factors go into picking the right hosting service for your site, but two of the best overall WordPress hosting providers I can recommend in 2024 are Pressable and Cloudways. Each offers quite a different approach…

Pressable is a premium managed WordPress hosting platform run by the same company that owns WordPress.com and WooCommerce: Automatic. This is a highly stable and performant service for small business, e-commerce and professional sites.

Cloudways is a managed cloud platform where you can host WordPress sites on your own cloud server with dedicated and scalable resources (CPU, RAM and disk space). Performance and security are superior to most shared hosting platforms, but this one is a little advanced and the support is limited in scope, so I’d only recommend it for tech-savvy folks.

Here’s a quick review of the pros and cons of each of these two hosts:

Pressable Benefits

  • High-performance cloud servers with fast NVMe storage
  • Lots of server resources for dynamic sites (like WooCommerce)
  • Steady performance during traffic spikes
  • 100% uptime guarantee
  • Free CDN to speed up content loading globally
  • Jetpack Security plugin (malware scanning + automatic off-site backups)
  • Experienced technical support staff

Pressable Drawbacks

  • Expensive plans (not for a small site or a personal blog)
  • Staging tool doesn’t allow you to push changes to live site
  • Email costs extra (they use a third-party provider)
  • You can only host WordPress/WooCommerce sites

Cloudways Benefits

  • Managed cloud servers from DigitalOcean, AWS and Google Cloud
  • Dedicated resources that can be scaled up on demand
  • Dedicated software environment (more secure than shared hosting)
  • Server firewall and WordPress vulnerability scanner
  • You can host an unlimited number of websites
  • Cloudflare Enterprise CDN with full-page caching (add-on)

Cloudways Drawbacks

  • Has a learning curve for beginners
  • Requires manual DNS setup
  • No file manager (SFTP and SSH available)
  • No email (third-party add-on or use your own provider)
  • Limited free-tier support (advanced support costs extra)

Conclusion: Which Host to Choose?

Both Pressable and Cloudways are great choices for WordPress and WooCommerce hosting to use in 2024. They offer high-performance plans at fair prices.

Pressable is more suitable for hosting small business and professional WordPress sites. You’ll be able to worry less about technical aspects since the service is fully managed by competent technicians.

Cloudways offers a better price-performance ratio but more technical work will fall on your shoulders, especially when it comes to website-related issues since those aren’t covered by the default free-tier support plan.

What’s The Opinion of Reddit Users?

Reddit is a good place to look for technical assistance and recommendations. As far as WordPress hosting is concerned, you’ll find varying opinions with many of the more experienced users favoring self-managed cloud platforms like DigitalOcean and Vultr.

Best Affordable WordPress Hosting for Beginners

Both Cloudways and Pressable have been recommended by Redditors, although the latter only has a few shy mentions (it’s not one of the big/popular hosts, but I’d say that’s a good thing since most of those will treat you like a mere number.)

Another more affordable WordPress host that gets plenty of positive reviews on Reddit is KnownHost. They offer shared hosting as well as managed WordPress hosting plans at reasonable prices and with good technical support. This is probably more than you’ll need for a new small site.
