John Forbes is a native of southern Illinois. He grew up in Carterville, and like many native sons, earned his degree at SIU Carbondale, graduating with a B.S. in Accounting in 1990.
“SIU nurtured the seeds of entrepreneurship planted by my parents at an early age by helping me develop the skills, knowledge, and relational experience that would serve as a cornerstone for my career,” said Forbes.
After graduation, John served as a staff accountant in the Middle Market Practice Group at KPMG Peat Marwick in St. Louis. During that time he also obtained the designation of Certified Public Accountant.
Prior to founding FFG, Forbes was an investment representative with Edward Jones in Carbondale for nearly 10 years. But he was always drawn to the idea of running his own business.
“I was convinced that there was a better way to serve, guide, and encourage clients-a way that would elevate the experience,” said Forbes.
So in 2005, Forbes struck out on his own, forming Forbes Financial Group, and establishing their offices in Carbondale.
“At Forbes Financial Group, we understand that life is about much, much more than money and strive to deliver an experience that encourages a life well lived,” said Forbes.
Forbes and his wife Karyn have three lovely girls: Emily, Kaitlyn, and Reagan. In 2016, they gained a son when Emily married Andrew Wyne. Now, John and Karyn are looking forward to the summer of 2018 when they will become grandparents!
He and his family are active in the Vine Community Church in Carbondale. When not working, he enjoys listening to his favorite singer/songwriters (Jason Isbell, The Avett Brothers, and David Gray to name a few), playing acoustic guitar, savoring west coast wines, and grilling almost anything.
Forbes maintains Series 7, 24, 53, 63, and 66 registrations, held with LPL Financial.
