Dr. Richard Thalman

When Dr. Richard Thalman of Thalman Chiropractic says he’s got deep roots at SIU Carbondale it’s not hyperbole — over 20 of his family members are graduates of the university.

“My grandfather, Dr. W.A. Thalman was a Professor here at SIU and was a pioneer in developing the Early Childhood Development program that remains today. SIU President Deleyte Morris honored him by naming SIU’s Thalman Hall after him, so my connections to SIU go back generations,” Thalman said.

Thalman graduated from SIU Carbondale in 1983 with a B.S. in Commercial Recreation Management from the College of Education and Human Services.

His pursuit of a career in medicine came naturally, as his father and uncle were dentists in Carbondale, and other family members are in health services.

“I always wanted to be in the medical field and run my own business. And I learned a great deal as an undergraduate at SIU that would help me in that pursuit. My business classes included accounting, statistics, marketing and economics, and I rounded that out with classes in design and English literature,” Thalman said.

After graduation he moved to St. Louis, completed a degree at Logan Chiropractic University, and returned to Carbondale in 1992 to open Thalman Chiropractic.

“As we were remodeling that first office someone stopped in and asked if I could treat him. He ended up being my first patient and his timely visit was a good indicator of my future success here in Carbondale,” Thalman said.

Thalman Chiropractic is located at 606 Eastgate St. in Carbondale. His practice treats many SIU students and people from around the region.

They treat musculoskeletal conditions, neck and back pain, headaches, and other conditions and injuries. He’s got a five-star Google rating from clients and works every day to make sure his patients get the best care possible.
