Cure Me…Or Kill Me…

Gilby has led a charmed life. He started out in the LA power pop group Candy (elsewhere here on Six Degrees of Radio) back in the mid-80s before recording with Kill For Thrills and then ending up replacing Izzy in Guns n’ Roses. This solo album came out around the same time he was picking up the GNR gig and the sing-along chorus here matches the heavy crunch of his guitars a solid hook laden tune with some great rips. You could honestly see this as a GNR tune or as something another heavier LA outfit might try to play.

Gilby later ended up on the Rockstar Supernova TV show as well as touring with Heart and others, but this first solo album was one of the better ones with some serious songwriting chops that makes you wonder how much bigger he could have been if anyone had paid more attention to him instead of just treating him as a replacement side show during the early 90s GNR soap opera.

Thanks for checking out Six Degrees of Radio, and grooving along. If you don’t give this article the finger, or, y’know… a thumb, then I don’t know if you’re digging it or not.
