In late November, SIX Network launched ECHO, a content-registration system on blockchain where creators can upload their contents for ownership right protection. The response has been amazing with over one-million contents registered in less than one month (Please see remark for more details). (https://echo.work/)
One of the problems creators are facing is copyright infringement, which is present in almost all industries and leads to damages among individuals and companies, including content producers, freelance writers and startups who are unable to maintain their business or losing business opportunities.
The identity-based content registration system, or ECHO, was developed to alleviate the problem. ECHO represents a great and highly beneficial start as the system can store identity-based content, verify and keep them on blockchain, where revision can be traced publicly, and uploaded originals cannot be edited privately. Therefore, creators across all fields can definitely utilize the system for their best interest.
As of now, ECHO is capable of storing and verifying 6 types of data, including:
- Other classes of digital assets (i.e. for other types of data, such as gold and digital asset databases)
- Identities of physical assets (i.e. typical product codes, such as artworks, sculptures and amulets that are compatible with copyright stickers for identification)

The writer uploads the content on the ECHO system either (1) directly via browser or (2) through SDK on the partner platform.
The system will then create a metafinger from the data’s fingerprint and metadata then submit the metafinger to the verification process. This is done throughout the entire original content. For instance, if the content contains 1,000 words, it will be separated into words (word tokenization, part of natural language processing or NLP). Next, the system will arrange the words and divide them into three groups: group of 25 tokens, group of 14 tokens and group of 9 tokens. This process is called group of tokens generation.
All three sets of numbers from the group of tokens generation process will be hashed and stored for comparison against other sets of texts, on which the same processes are applied, using the Jaccard similarity technique. Basically, it involves group-by-group comparison to identify similar words or similarly arranged words using the following procedures:
- Compare using the group of 25 tokens.
a. If less than 50% of the content is duplicated, it will be considered a different content.
b. If over 50% of the content is duplicated, the (more accurate) next group will be used in the comparison.
2. Compare using the group of 14 tokens (if the first comparison resulted in over 50% duplication).
a. If less than 70% of the content is duplicated, it will be considered a different content.
b. If over 70% of the content is duplicated, the last and most accurate group will be used in the comparison.
3. Compare using the group of 9 tokens (if the second comparison resulted in over 70% duplication).
a. If less than 80% of the content is duplicated, it will be considered a different content.
b. If it is still found that more than 80% of the words and word arrangement are duplicated, the content will be considered an existing content.
There are numerous benefits from using a blockchain-based system like ECHO to store writers’ works, including copyright protection, ownership identification, as well as fair ownership verification. Moreover, it helps prevent issues related to partial plagiarism. Uploading original content through SDK on Ookbee U platforms is a good start in raising awareness of ownership among young-generation writers and preventing unwanted plagiarism.
In the first stage, SIX Network and Ookbee U have over 5,700,000 pieces of work from over 600,000 writers. And as previously mentioned, the process has been advancing with over 1,000,000 contents stored and connected to Ground X (Kakao’s subsidiary)’s Klaytn Blockchain. After successfully storing the existing contents, every new content will be connected and stored with a real-time process. If any plagiarism is detected, the writer will be notified. In addition, storing the data on the ECHO network helps protect the writer’s right of ownership on a third-party platform.
The aforementioned examples demonstrate that ECHO has accurately and rapidly utilised blockchain to develop a base network with a more elaborate improvement on data identity storage, in order to protect creator’s rights and detect plagiarism.
