February Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Love”

The closest thing to unconditional love.

If someone else says they have the best dog in the world they’re wrong. That moniker belongs to the one who lived under my roof.

An old gentle soul inhabited his furry body. With a wagging tail, he often pressed his torso against anyone he met thereby dispersing his unconditional to everyone — with one marked exception.

The mail carrier.

Anytime the carrier came to our door they were met with a fierce protective warning.

Our home had a mail slot in the dining room wall with a metal-hinged door on the outside. The carrier lifted the door, slipped the mail through the slot and it fell into a basket inside the house. The sound of that hinged door opening caused my dog to switch from peaceful to protective. Sometimes when I came home I’d find envelopes with bite marks making the dog ate the water bill a valid excuse.

Aside from that, my dog was a not a fighter and sadly his paws no longer tread this earth. On his last day, with a weary tired body, he summoned the strength to lean his torso into me to administer one final dose of his unconditional .
