Summer Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shine!”

Never too old to wear bangles

One of the loveliest sights in our local market is that of street vendors selling bangles, among other accessories. Women and girls flock to them, wanting to try on different types — glass, plastic, metal, some embellished with sparkles, and other add-ons like tassels.

The best part is the expertise of the vendor is getting the bangles past the women’s fists to their wrists. They are such wonderful salesmen, too! Always generous about adding a few extras to drive a fair bargain, rather than reduce their prices.

Bangles are always in season — they make great accessories with any type of apparel, be it sarees, salwar kurtas, or even jeans. Yeah, some of us love to fill our forearms with the jangle of glass bangles simply because it is fun.

And from this month on, we begin our series of festivals where bangles form an essential part of the rituals for the goddesses. Depending on which deity is being worshipped, each one has a specific color, too.

Yes, I have at least five dozen bangles — glass and metal. I especially love the red ones!
