Crossing the Kingdom of Sand

Six word photo story challenge: Freestyle

What awaits us at journey’s end?

Two things inspired this story: the extraordinary colors of the desert in Giza, Egypt, and a quote by Alice Walker, “Horses make a landscape look beautiful.” The first is one of a series of my desert photographs; the second is a quote I came across recently. The contrast of the setting and the colorful cart suggests beauty and barrenness.

Alice Walker is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and social activist. She was the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for her novel The Color Purple.
