It appears I like reflection shots.

I found this image from April 2010. I was in Barcelona with my wife (pre-kids — those were the days, right?). I discovered this photo by doing a search in my Flickr back catalogue.

You don’t need me to tell you the word I searched for, but it gave me 66 images in return. I am fond of reflections. I hadn’t realised.

Several things strike me about this image:

  • The blueness of the sky
  • The shape of my sunglasses. I wouldn’t choose a shape like that nowadays.
  • The clarity of detail in the image, achieved by what is now a very old camera — the Canon 40D.
  • My retro camera strap. I loved that strap.
  • If you look carefully, you can see my sunglasses in the lens filter. That’s what makes this shot. And this was entirely intentional. I must have made my aperture much smaller to achieve this effect. I usually shoot with a wide-open aperture, but that, of course, creates a shallow depth of field, which wouldn’t have worked here.

Anyway, this was a good holiday. I’d like to visit Barcelona again.
