Home Sweet Home, a place where we feel secure and comfortable.
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Comfort”
Comfort found in recalling childhood memories.
I came across this picture of my childhood home. It was stashed away in a book I had not seen for several years. All memories of spending time in this lovely home flashed back. This is the place where my story began.
My favourite childhood memory is the comfort of my home, where I spent the first seventeen years of my life. When I look at the picture of the lovely home with its beautiful garden, all memories come alive.
My father worked for Kandla Port Trust, one of India’s principal ports on its western border in Kutch. We lived in the government colony, which had these lovely huge houses with sprawling gardens and lawns.
I showed this picture to my 93-year-old mom; her memory has slowed down due to age. But the moment she saw this picture, I could see comfort as she recognised the home. For the next few hours, she spent narrating stories from the past. It made her smile and feel happy.
I always remember my childhood home with happy memories. There was a beautiful garden; outside my bedroom window were jasmine plants that bloomed in the evening, giving off a divine scent. My love for gardening developed while my mom was creative in the garden and spent her time nurturing the plants.
My fondest memories are playing hide and seek with my friends in the garden.
I was brought up in this house’s very secure and comfortable environment.
Sometimes I wish I could step back in time and relive the carefree childhood moments.
Isn’t childhood a wonderful and carefree time?
What I miss most is this home where I could let my hair down, enjoy my mom’s cooking, be comfortable in pyjamas and T-shirts and do all this and more without being judged.
“A comfortable house is a great source of happiness. It ranks immediately after health and a good conscience.” — Sydney Smith.
Thank you Ellie Jacobson for this inspiring prompt.
