How’s it Going?

February Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Statues”

--

Are you ready? Let us go.

The last day of our walk on the West Highland Way, Scotland, was the wettest of them all.

It started drizzling as soon as we began walking in the direction of Ben Nevis at Fort William. And it never stopped.

Copious amounts of whiskey swigging threatened to make us drunk and but not warm. We kept going with the knowledge that it was the last day.

We were miserable with the constant downpour and even had to take our lunch under the open skies. Soggy sandwiches anyone?

After walking across a green but treeless landscape, we finally came near a village with some farmsteads. Farm machinery was strewn about, a lot of muck heaps as well. Not a soul in sight.

But mentally we had crossed a milestone. Fort William was not far now.

Spurred on by thoughts of an end to the ordeal, a warm meal and some Irn Bru flavoured ice cream we walked..no cross that…dragged ourselves for the last 12 km and made it in one, soggy wet piece.

Would I do it again? Despite the rain, the cold and the midges? Hell yes!

If you have not been, please do go. It is not a particularly tough walk with gentle hills to go up and down over. And lots of pasture land dotted with sheep and cows.

You get the best of Scottish scenery, and there are some nice distilleries on the way too. Hic!

Starts at Glasgow, another lovely city to roam in and you can stay in small village houses or hostels along the way.

I am happy to answer any questions you have about this longish but beautiful adventure.
