I Won’t Be Quitting My Day Job
November Six Word Photo Story: “Collecting Smiles”
Stand back. Don’t spoil the illusion.
Pre-COVID, I had some pretty grand plans for my 50th. It would land on Melbourne Cup Day, which is known (apart from the actual race) as being a great day to do a fundraising luncheon. Not many people with Cystic Fibrosis make it to 50. Statistically, it’s around 5% — depending on which set of statistics you look at. When you include the titbit that both my parents were jockeys, it seemed like a golden opportunity.
But COVID…
So with a large celebration out, I had to put on my thinking cap.
I’ve always wanted to go to a Wendy Binks workshop, where she teaches a foolproof method to paint one of her stunted emus. So I decided to be cheeky and ask Wendy if she’d do a private workshop. ( I do know Wendy, so that helped.)
With 18 of my favorite people, we laughed, painted, collected smiles, made memories, and ended up with some pretty good emus. 🎨🎨
If you don’t look too closely, that is!
Mine’s hanging on the wall above some furniture, which keeps all my booboos at a decent distance – and it looks pretty good if you squint with the lights down low. 🤣🤣🤣
Does my Emu have a smile or a smirk? I’m not sure – he’s definitely cheeky!
If you’d like to see how we went collectively, you’ll find a group shot here.
