Kids’ Art Competition

Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle

A common sight in one of the most popular areas in our city is the impromptu kids’ programs organized by groups/organizations where they invite kids to participate in art contests and games. They provide the art materials too, which is a bonus. They also throw in some learning experiences such as live pottery classes and so on.

It is a great way to keep kids off the screen and spend time together outdoors interacting with others and getting to take home memories and participation certificates along with promises of future fun.

The organizers of course have an entry fee to compensate for their efforts along with some great publicity.

Some years back, after the Metro service started, a part of M.G. Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road — every city in India has one, by the way) was transformed into an art gallery with gorgeous displays. A walk down this road is a wonderful experience.

I hope to share some more art from this walk this month — but for now, let’s feast our eyes on this plain whitewashed wall transformed into a cheerful visual treat with the kids’ paintings. All are in the age group of 6–10 years. The theme was probably nature/earth day. 72 entries visible. Enjoy!

The best part? The look on the children’s faces as they enjoyed the praise for their creative efforts. Can’t say I am a fan of these contests though. Why can’t the children just hang out and have fun without the pressure of competing? Sigh.

That day, we also took the Metro for the first time to an art village and had a wonderful time. A memorable day indeed!
