Out exploring with New Forest pony.

This is Sally. She was a 2-speed pony. Her two speeds were full gallop and standing still. She was never content with anything in between. Sally and I explored a greater area together than I’ve ever explored with any other pony. We did little sightseeing though as our adventures were mostly at full speed.

Sally was unusually fearless and very interested in the world around her. At a country show one year, she stood fascinated watching the bungy jumpers while all the other ponies had hysterics at the sight and sounds of mad people hurling themselves off a tall crane.

I wasn’t always in full control of where Sally and I went together and it was through a complicated bit of inadvertent trespassing that we got to know one of the local farmers. He became a friend who was the conduit to our finding and settling in our present house. As I’ve told people ever since it was our mad New Forest pony and our mad Alsatian dog who found us our perfect home — but that’s another story.
