Nostalgia, tasting mangoes from another season!

It is August! Yes, the rainy season in India is the mango season!

In Australia, we are at the tail end of our winter season, so there are no mangoes!

We do get mangoes here—delicious mangoes even grow in our backyard. But eating mangoes in December and January feels a bit odd!

In the beginning, when I was very new in Australia, eating mangoes in December and celebrating Lohri in July used to feel almost blasphemous!

The taste of mangoes fills me with nostalgia, transporting me back to those rainy days — that bucket full of little chausa mangoes getting chilled under the torrential rain of July and August. When I was a little girl, I competed with my brothers, trying to eat (suck on/it is hard to translate the word ‘Choosna’) as many mangoes as I could, but I could never win!

Dr. Preeti Singh’s post on mangoes made my mouth water and makes my heart full!
