Melancholy in Black and White
June Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Black & White — Freestyle”
When the mood meets the prompt.
Yesterday, I felt utterly alone.
I know where this feeling came from, but that’s not the story I want to write.
It’s too personal and, ironically, fluid.
I’ll probably feel different tomorrow.
Today, still, my stomach is tight with anxiety.
Dread.
My unbidden thoughts, chained to my feelings, imagine the worst.
I took this photograph yesterday on a long walk along a flooded river bank.
14,000 steps.
Next to a muddy river.
When it slows its flow, the water will clear.
My mind may — slow and clear — as well.
By now, I’m guessing the stuck branch will have moved downriver.
It may lodge somewhere else.
Nothing EVER stays the same.
Even melancholy and catastrophic thoughts.
And Six-Word challenge prompts.
Thank goodness.
Please take a close look at B.R. Shenoy’s beautiful photograph.
And Lily Boyer’s story about change.
You should read another by me. Most include not a hint of melancholy, I promise.
