Still sweet, still good. No guilt.

I used to be addicted to chips, chocolate bars, cookies, and candy — basically, junky stuff that came in a package. This April, I decided to take a “no sugar vow” because the “4 evil c’s” started to destroy my mental health. I wasn’t one to occasionally treat myself with an innocent sweet or two. I had a horrible tendency to binge — and that binge factor took me over the edge and made me fall down a dark hole. The only way I could climb out was to Quit My Love Affair with Sugar.

I’m proud to say that I still haven’t binged since I took the vow, but December is a month filled with holiday celebrations and an abundance of naughty food. One of the ways I try to stay “on track” is by choosing healthy options to bring to holiday events, such as staff potlucks. Typically, there’s a selection of pizza, poutine, fried chicken, bread with dip, cake, cookies, and chips with a homemade dish or two in the mix.

I used to bring something sweet or junky, but now I make sure I bring something healthy to contribute, such as the vegetable salad rolls with peanut sauce and fresh…
