Prepare For Change
June Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Black & White — Freestyle”
Suddenly the dark clouds roll in.
We were told a thunderstorm is coming.
How? The sun is blindingly bright and the sky makes the air seem blue. Besides, what’s the big deal? We’ve seen thunderstorms before.
Huffing and puffing with every fifty feet I trek, I become acutely aware of my need for oxygen at 9000 feet. I never felt the weight of my legs at sea level.
Dark clouds seem to appear out of nowhere over the snowy peaks. Rumbling sounds rise and fall like an orchestra.
We continue to climb up the fully exposed trail. There’s nowhere to hide. Thanks to the warnings from the locals, when the sheet of rain spreads over us, we have rain jackets to shield us.
Change is inevitable in the Rockies. A little preparation helps us press on and embrace the contrasting beauty of the mountains and snow in black and white.
