Could that be a mermaid tail?

You know it’s cold when Chilli consents to a wearable blankie (dog coat). With her thick heeler fur, she seldom feels the cold.

Rotto, on the other paw, shivers and shakes wanting his wearable blankie as soon as there is a bit of breeze. Unlike his looks which come from his Kelpie heritage, Rotto’s fur is all Staffy — short and sparse.

Rotto thinks he looks rather adorable in his wearable blankie and struts about proudly. But he’s not shy about stripping off either. Given this, Rotto is a perfect candidate to be a Selkie — or perhaps a merpup!

Some Quick Merfolk Facts

🧜‍♀️There are four main groups of Merfolk:

  • Sirens — Sea-nymphs who lure sailors with their enchanting voices.
  • Deities — Gods and Godesses of the sea.
  • Selkies — Seal in water and human on land.
  • Mermaid (also known as the Disneyfyed Mermaid).

🧜‍♀️Odysseus, (from Homer’s Odyssey) successfully escaped the clutches of the Sirens after the Trojan War.

🧜‍♀️The first recorded sighting of the sea Deitie, Atargatis, was in Ancient Syria, 1000BC.

🧜‍♀️If you wish to summon a male Selkie, you should shed seven tears into the sea. Why would you want a male Selkie, you ask? Because they are a VERY good reason for stepping out on your husband — you can’t possibly be to blame, after all, it WAS the Selkie’s fault.

🧜‍♀️There is a statue of The Litttle Mermaid in Copenhagen.

🧜‍♀️Yawkyawk is an Australian water spirit who lives in billabongs in Arnhem Land. Yawkyawks have the body of a woman and tail of a fish. Their hair resembles long strands of algae, allowing them to blend into their surroundings and hide.
