“Yes, Mam, and Thank You, Sir”

Occasionally, we all have taken a road trip to a special place. But have you ever taken a road trip to a special time? Well, today you are! I have just the two-wheeled vehicle to get us there. So, hop on, hang on, and keep your eyes wide open; this is going to be different.

Over the years, I have made a point of traveling the least traveled roads to places that few bother to go. Today, it’s Forbus General Store in Tennessee. This store has been a landmark in these parts since 1892.

John, his wife, and his family run the store. They have an array of good food, homemade fudge, ice cream, and treats. In addition, they have jams, spices, and handmade crafts to browse through before or after lunch. There is plenty for everyone.

But what draws me there, over and above these amenities, is the people. It’s always the people! Their friendly demeanor, patience, and courteous way of greeting people — all people! It takes you back to a different period when “Yes, Mam, and Thank You, Sir” was still the native language. Its calm, relaxed, authentic atmosphere is not just a special place; it transports you to a special time.

So, if things are spinning a bit too fast, and you find yourself needing to make a road trip, look up Forbus General Store in Tennessee. Shut down your computer, lose the phone, and hit the road. Who knows, you may just arrive in another period of time??
