Scones Stick to The Bones

August six-word Photo Story Challenge: “Food”

Rich scones energized us for hours.

I am an infrequent baker. But after I invited my brother and his wife to hike with me near my home, I decided to treat them to fresh, home-baked goods.

Several years ago, I learned my brothers and I are one-sixteenth Scottish. So, scones seemed like a fitting mid-morning snack.

I followed the scone recipe from the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook. Because they feature plenty of butter and heavy cream, they should not be a daily snack.

While some of my baking attempts were disasters, the scones turned out well. Still warm when the guests arrived, we savored them with strawberry preserves, fresh fruit, and coffee.

Completely energized, we hit the trail with vigor.

You may have noticed eleven scones in the photo. Initially, there were a dozen, but I taste-tested one before my brother and his wife arrived to ensure they would hit the mark.

Thanks to editor Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles, for this month’s tantalizing challenge. Publisher Mary Chang Story Writer and editor Sandi Parsons cook up surprises, too.
