The Cat Campaign
July Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Cute Creatures”
It took a lot of effort
When Amy the cat passed away my granddaughter was devastated. She had known that kitty all of her young life. They had bonded like true friends. Amy and Valentina were inseparable.
The loss of a pet is a traumatic experience. Amy had been part of the family for twenty-two years. Valentina’s dad raised her from birth. Yet Amy seemed to gravitate to the love and attention she got from Valentina from a very early age.
The campaign to replace the departed pet began immediately. Valentina asked her parents for another cat.
The answer she got was a disappointing NO. Her parent viewed the lack of a household pet as a break from the responsibilities of providing care. No more litter duty, feeding times, vet visits, and arranging pet sitting while away, which is frequent. That family travels often.
Valentina began a campaign to change her parent’s mind.
She wrote a Declaration of Dependency: I will take care of the cat. I will feed it, clean the litter box, do everything, she promised.
No cat.
Valentina, what would you like for Christmas?
